The main project in 2nd year was based in the Welsh valley town Aberdare. Once a thriving coal mining town, it is now struggling to find a new identity following the closure of the mines. After site analysis and research I chose to design a music facility, allowing the practice, recording and performing of music. The building aimed to reuse a traditional Welsh chapel and reconnect the town with its largely unexposed river.
A perforated Corten cladding covered exposed servicing, creating a sense of drama and a rough and ready building, prepared for future changes in an unstable area of the country.
