Scolar Library

This short project at the beginning of my final year at Cardiff was a new addition to the arts and humanities library, housing the rare and unique books of the Scolar library.

My scheme aimed to publicise the contents inside and allow for exhibitions to be held near the main route past the building. The main form is a square box that, like a book cover, protects the fragile pages within it, whilst acting as a form of decoration.

As the books are rare, they can be treated much more as objects of interest. My aim was therefore to make them the highlight and focus of the reading room, a warm glow falls onto them via the tall brass-clad fins above the shelves.
